Urban Planning Amnesty: 699 Applications Submitted

The Urban Planning Amnesty Scheme has received 699 applications since its launch on September 23, 2024. Designed to legalize minor planning violations, this initiative allows property owners to secure final approval and title deeds before the deadline on March 23, 2025.

Breakdown of Applications by District

According to Elikkos Elia, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of the Interior, the majority of applications (616) relate to residential developments. The applications are distributed as follows:

  • Nicosia: 219 applications
  • Limassol: 215 applications
  • Larnaca: 78 applications
  • Paphos: 150 applications
  • Famagusta: 37 applications

The Urban Planning Amnesty Scheme applies to various projects, including:

  • 616 residential developments
  • 36 commercial developments
  • 8 office developments
  • 6 industrial/storage developments
  • 3 tourism developments
  • 3 health facilities
  • 2 sports facilities
  • 1 welfare development
  • 13 leisure and entertainment projects
  • 4 agricultural/livestock projects
  • 7 other developments

Elia encouraged property owners to take advantage of the Urban Planning Amnesty before the deadline, emphasizing that it helps legalize minor planning violations such as exceeding building coefficients, covered verandas, pergolas, or boundary adjustments.

Supporting Affordable Housing Initiatives

The application process is simplified and can be completed with the assistance of private consultants. Fees collected contribute to the Special Fund of the Cyprus Land Development Corporation, supporting affordable housing initiatives and aligning with government policies to improve housing affordability.
